Coq Au Vin and Mango milli-feuille!

wooot! i know i wasnt much of a chicken person and more of red meat guy but its good to explore some chicken dish so for today, i decided to go ahead with a very classic 1970s dish

the Coq Au Vin - pronounced as "koq aw van" is a chicken stew cooked with onions, garlic, thyme, and mushrooms and simmered over low heat with red wine.

i used Pinot Noir this time, might wana consider chosing other variety of red cos its quite an xpensive choice for cooking LOL, but the taste was quite awesome. I think this dish is perfect if there are like 4-6 person coming over for dinner hehe

Also, i manage to make my 1st successful mash potatoes hehe, very soft and creamy, definately will try making it again if i grill sausage next time hehe.(BANGERS & mash...sluuurrrp!)

For dessert, i made this Small rectangular pastries made of crisp layers of puff pastry and pastry cream. The word mille-feuille means a thousand leaves. LOL wtf french class?! haha nah, cos i dunno how to describe this term in english so yeah , and for fillings, i used this icecream mango i bought at cold storage hehe just nice for the 2 of us. :)
but i failed very badly at the chocolate drizzling part LOL
lesson learnt : use a bigger spoon for drizzle LOL so it wont look so bad...arghhh
till next time, oh man,.tomolo SNY for JCL...for melb..2 meal service....arghhhhhhhh

Tiger prawn Linguine with scallops!!

I ate pasta mania with lyn and cherlyn yersterday at bugis and seriously i think they really serve wtf.com pasta...so i decided to make some myself..well tat wasnt the actual plan , Andy was planning to make risotto but fail cos he couldnt get the ingred at carrefour HAHAHAHA dude, tats noobish man, mistake number 1, dun ever ever go there if u thinking of cooking some western kind of dish, carrefour is like market full of stuff tat you dun really need LOL, but yeah, He manage to redeem his mistake by getting the tiger prawns and scallops i was thinking of cooking, Andy also decided to noobish by buying shitake mushrooms...which the clear instructions given was to get some brown cap cos i was thinking of making mushroom soup ..LOL

I took a pic of the mushroom and cream soup, cooked with olive oil , red onions and of cos stock and cream, verdict? i hate it cos i cant take shitake. but they kinda of like it. i dunno, gotta hear some comments from lyn and Andy abt the soup.

Lets move on to the pasta ! This dish is cooked with the Linguine done aglio olio style = which is garlic, olive oil, basil and a bit of chill, (chilli goes quite well with seafood) , prawn and scallops are panfried with garlic and the special sauce i used for tat extra punch is a stock of the prawn, white wine, onions, rosemary, zest of lemon ,carrots, salt, pepper and chicken stock cooked over low heat for like 1hr till its reduced to this thick sauce with all the flavour sealed in..drizzle these on top of ur pasta with the seafood, and VIOLA! ---the below pic.,. hehe

Scallops n pizza on the menu!

Yeah so i was thinking on my way back frm osaka tat I wana try making my own pizza, as in from scratch, mixing the flour, yeast salt etc and kneading it ..

And so I did, Lyn asked me to do the mixing and kneading outside the house so i wont make a mess..so poor thing huh, have to be banished outside to make dough LoL.

Anyway, manage to get it done with not so much of a mess, but the 1kg flour got me 3 pizza base abt 3 12inch pizza..lol

So lets see wat is on the menu tonight before i go for Shrek 3 movie..

Pan fried Scallops with sauted spinach(yes i love this veggie) with port sauce, and Parma Ham pizza with rocket leafs n a drizzle of olive oil..

The red colour port sauce is made from onions, olive oil , chicken stock cooked in Port till its almost left a little so all the flavour and sweetness is sealed in..yummy, goes quite well with seafood with its sweet taste.

As for the pizza, i am pretty happy but not totally cos after all its my 1st pizza, it does taste great but I realised if i baked the pbase 1st rather than putting all in at once, it would turn out much better. I tried it again the next day and it turn out crispy, and delicious :)

But the parma ham and rocket leaf...omg..its like the best combo ever, i used to like pepperoni but ithink this is just plain awesome haha. I hate pizza hut thick pan pizza, so this kind of home made thin and crispy version hits the spot man.

Enjoy!( sorry for the dark pic of the scallop cos it wasnt taken in the kitchen but in the dining when it was on dim lighting..haha)

@ the top of Osaka

HEP5 is where i was planning to go today so i did, pretty straight forward, just a few subway stations away. Quite a big, but not mega or huge , smaller than what i was expecting kinda mall, with a ferris wheel and a amusement park inside. Chanced upon this dark Gothic curry restaurant and saw this hilarious sign outside, haha "Wearing dresses not suitable for our shop" LOLOL 1st time i ever seen a curry restaurant that requires u to be in so call proper wear. Dun you wish the subway in sg got variety such as these..? haha. so here is what the HEP5 looks like from outside

and yeah i have to try tat ferris wheel since i am already , besides it only cost 500yen.

Apparently i'm like the only guy tat actually bought a ticket..and the young chap offered to take a pic of me standing at the entrance , and it cost money to buy, i am sure anyone of u tat went to tourist attractions came across such stuff too..and NO i didnt buy it of cos...so damn ugly of me standing at the game..makes no sense to me at all. So i use my canon and snap away inside the gondola hehe

it took like 20over mins i think for whole experience, get to see Osaka at quite a height..lol but for 500yen , yeah its kinda worth it to try..ONCE.
Singapore is also building one of this and its already fully booked even before completion lolwtfman, must be the love birds and couples tats trying to propose there. come on man, cant u guys like think of something better and less expected? LOL

There is also this Gyoza Stadium foodcourt thingy nearby to HEP5 that i found, its like a lvl in the Namco Arcade building with all the stalls using Gyoza..prepared slightly different frm each other..Gyoza btw is pan fried dumplings, TAKE NOTE ITS PAN FRIED...NOT DEEP FRIED..some food court stalls in sg do tat. I hate those so much...
Anyway, i decided to try a stall selling beef Gyoza, since i seldom get to see beef variations, kinda X, cost 500 for just 3..wtf . taste wise, i think beef isnt the best ingred for gyoza, maybe cos the taste was quite mashy for me, i dunno. I still prefer pork as fillings anytime.

Went back to the hotel and asked if there are any place in Osaka tat is like Akihabara of Tokyo and she told is just "around the corner". So i walked and WTFMAN.com its like almost 40mins of walking!!! around the corner MY arse, by the time i reach this "Den Den Town" its like almost dinner time LOL

Nothing much to see if u already been to Tokyo, nothing new but the price is so much higher here..so no, although was very tempted to buy the Super Mario dude but decided to have a simple dinner and TAKE a SUBWAY back..LOL.

Alriteee with all these covered in my 1st ever 4day Osaka pattern instead of the 3 day version, i think tats pretty much it and i shall sign out here with a pic of a handwashing machine parked right outside a Ramen joint..lol nicee
